Why a new television set requires a fresh TV stand underneath it

With all of the new sizes and shapes of high definition televisions being made there has been an increased demand for TV stands capable of holding these often mammoth sized sets. Sure, one could try and get by with their old television stand and hope it is up to the task, but is it wise to buy a new TV for hundreds or thousands and risk it falling to an untimely demise, when for just a little bit more money a sturdy properly designed modern TV stand can be had? Of course not. There is no sense in buying a high end TV without taking precautions to protect it. Plus, no one really wants to put a pristine looking new TV on a shabby worn out old stand.
